Key Aspects of the RTR Course:
- Standardised Course: The RTR course adheres to standards set by the International & Indian aviation bodies.
- Communication Proficiency: It focuses on teaching standard aviation phraseology, frequency management, and emergency communication protocols.
- Practical Training: The course includes hands-on training with radio equipment to simulate real-world communication scenarios, ensuring that participants can handle radio communications confidently in any situation.
- Regulatory Compliance: Completing the RTR course and obtaining the certification is a mandatory requirement for various pilot licenses, including the Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
Course Content:
- Introduction to Radio Telephony (RT) Communication: Gather insights into the basic principles of radio communication in aviation and the importance of clear and concise communication.
- Regulatory Education: Familiarizing with national and international regulations governing radio communication in aviation.
- Phraseology and Communication Procedures: Attain the knowledge of communicating maximum information in minimum words using aviation English & phraseology and protocols to exchange information accurately.
- Navigation and Reporting Phraseologies: Developing proficiency in conveying accurate position reports and navigation-related information over radio frequencies.
- Emergency Procedures: Learning appropriate procedures for declaring emergencies, requesting assistance, and conveying critical information to air traffic control in minimum words and time.
- Interaction with Real Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs): Practicing realistic scenarios of interacting with air traffic control with ATCOs having experience of 15+ years to enhance the ability to understand and respond to ATC instructions.
- Practical Exercises Based on Real Aviation Scenarios: Realistic Simulation Based exercises based on real aviation events in India to provide maximum understanding of how to act under stressful situations.
Examination and Certification:
- The RTR exam is conducted in two parts:
- Part 1 (Practical): Assessment of practical knowledge of radio communication procedures.
- Part 2 (Oral): Assessment of theoretical knowledge and oral communication skills.
- The exam is conducted by the Wireless Planning and Coordination (WPC) department of the Ministry of Communications in India, and it is held every two months in various cities across the country.
